On one of my last days in Bali on a buying trip, I spotted and fell head over heels in love with a similar painting to this on the main road in Ubud. The colors, depth and texture made me feel like the tree was about to start dancing in the wind at any given moment.
As I was heading back Stateside, I left the task of finding the painter with my friend Suparta. In Bali, many artists are not open to meeting with every person who seeks them out. With some luck, and perhaps a little bit of magic, the painter agreed to commission some pieces for Brilliant Imports, and we are able to offer you these amazing paintings. Another ‘tid-bit’: in Bali, one must pay extra to have the painter sign (which comes with a certificate) their work. These ‘smaller’ versions (to Painting 1) do not have the signature and certificate. These are all authentic pieces painted by the artist Nanang. He is a self-taught painter originally from East Java and is still active. Oil on canvas.
